I love crafting. I love my cat. Craft + cat = cat toys!

I am so lucky to own a kitten that loves anything and everything. He enjoys every DIY homemade cat toy that I do not feel the need to get him any commercial cat toys (except maybe automatic toys, haha!). So I dug out some craft supplies from my box and did two types of feather toys that are extremely easy to make!

For both toys, you will need:

Thin cotton twine/ nylon string

Mini hand drill

Wooden dowels

Feathers

Marker/ pen

Wire

Step 1:

Using your marker, make an indication of where you want the hole to be on the wooden dowel. Use your hand drill and drill in a small hole, just big enough to thread your string through.

Tip! Don't have it too near the end.

Step 2:

Cut a string about half a metre long. Gather a bunch of feathers and secure it tightly with the wire/ one end of the string.

Step 3:

Secure the other end of the string to the dowel.

TIP! Loop it around, knot it and loop it around again before double knotting the string to secure it tightly.

Done! Easy peasy!

TIP! Attach some bells with the feathers to add some weight so that it is easier to wave the toy around.

'Now, what's this?'

I usually use it to imitate the behavior of a prey, run-stop-hide, to get him all excited and chasing for the feather toy. I also raise it up in the air to get him to exercise his hind legs.

For the next feather toy, it is a close range toy. You can sit while playing with your cat, or some will use it to play during car rides when the cat is in its carrier. Repeat steps 1 and 2. The string do not have to be half a metre long, 10cm is more than enough.

Step 3:

Using the wire/ string, go through the hole and loop it multiple times around the wooden dowel. If using the string, do the loop, knot, loop again and knot twice for more security.

Done! After testing with both the wire and string, I find that using the string is alot more secure than using the wire (because my wire is too short).

Meuw loves it and I hope your cats love it too!

Happy crafting!
